Meet the New Harvest for Google Apps

Google Apps is ingrained in our workflow here at Harvest, and many of our customers share the same story — checking e-mails in Gmail, collaborating on docs in Drive, and more.

Harvest fro Google Apps

The latest release of Harvest for Google Apps takes advantage of these tools already familiar and frequented by teams everywhere. It introduces the ability to pull users from Google Apps right into Harvest without re-entering any information. There’s also a tighter integration with Gmail. The team can take action on submitting timesheets and more right from Gmail’s inbox. Read on for the complete rundown of features.

Single Sign On

Sign in to Harvest with your Google Apps account and have one less password to remember. If you’re already signed in to another Google property like Gmail, you won’t have to re-enter your password to get into Harvest.

Import Users from Google Apps

With employees already in Google Apps, you can quickly add them to Harvest. From Manage > People in Harvest, click Import from Google. Then check off the Google Apps users you’d like to invite to Harvest. They’ll receive an e-mail with information to setup their account.

Gmail Actions

While viewing your inbox, a button now appears near the subject line of certain e-mails received from Harvest. These Gmail Actions provide one-click access to timesheets — either your own, or another employee’s timesheet for approval.

Export to Drive

Create the perfect time report and export it to Google Drive. Simply click Export > Google Drive from the report to export it to Google Drive. From there, manipulate the data in the resulting Google Spreadsheet, share it with colleagues or clients, and more.

Harvest for iPhone 3.0: Refined & Simplified

We’ve updated our iPhone companion app with a more modern design, and a cleaner, simpler user experience. Behind the scenes, we simplified our codebase to gear up for future updates. Tracking time and entering expenses from iPhone feels even easier than before.

  • Swipe an entry to access start/stop or delete shortcuts

Harvest for Android 1.5.1: Better Performance, Team Status, and More!

Recently we released a long awaited update to Harvest for Android. In previous versions, there were reports by some users experiencing issues with syncing, sluggishness, and even crashing. We did a serious overhaul of the codebase to fix these issues and to make further enhancements much easier to implement. The result is a more reliable app with vastly improved performance and usability.

  • Optimized Timesheet — Now you can jump to today’s date from any day of the week in the timesheet. Behind the scenes, logged time updates to Harvest more efficiently than before.
  • Team Status — Administrators can stay in sync with their team by viewing their team’s timers in real-time from the app.
  • Refer a Friend — The next time you mention Harvest at a cocktail party, you can share a unique link with partygoers and earn credit ($) towards your next month’s bill.

Harvest for iPhone 2.2: Do More From Mobile

We’re excited to release Harvest for iPhone 2.2 as mobile continues to evolve as a powerful companion to get projects done. Now you can do more from the road without reaching for the old fashioned workstation.

While there are a slew of updates, the highlights are in time tracking:

  • Timesheet Approval — Submit timesheets for approval right from the app. Perfect for the days when you forget to submit a timesheet on your way home from the office.
  • Timestamps — View and edit timestamps. It’s easier to record and understand exactly how long you spent on a task.

Use Trello? Track time with the Harvest Chrome Extension

The good folks at Fog Creek have received over 1900 votes to build time tracking into Trello, their project management application. With that much enthusiasm, it only made sense for us to bring time tracking into Trello, Harvest-style. Today, we’re very excited to announce that you can now use the Harvest Chrome Extension to track time right from your Trello account.

Behind the Scenes with Harvest: Kaizen

While working on a different post today, I realized that we’ve never formally talked about Kaizen, our internal project management/bug tracker/feature request tracker. Sure, we’ve mentioned it in passing a number of times, but we’ve never given you a behind the scenes peek at what Kaizen looks like.

“Kaizen” is a Japanese word meaning “improvement” and refers to a philosophy of continuous improvement of process. It’s the perfect name for a tool that contributes so deeply to the improvement of our products, ourselves and the work we do. In a lot of ways, Kaizen (app) is the embodiment of The Harvest Way: listen to our customers, make it simpler, make it faster, be honest and keep improving.

Bidsketch and Harvest integration

Bidsketch is an application that lets you design beautiful proposals, send them to your clients and track them to see when they’re reviewed and accepted.  It has great support  for things like templates, optional work/fees, and a client workflow to collaborate on, accept and sign-off on proposals.

Now, Bidsketch is integrated with Harvest, allowing you to easily convert accepted proposals in Bidsketch over to an invoice in Harvest.  Additionally, you can move client information between systems and create projects in Harvest directly from Bidsketch.

Harvest for Zendesk – Love Tracking Time from Your Help Desk

Improvise

Improvisation as a business strategy has gained more and more traction over the years. The improv theaters in every major city offer consulting and team building exercises. The last two conferences I attended began with an improv session.

The best idea we can borrow from the improvisation world is the concept of “YES, AND.” From “Bossypants” by Tina Fey:

As an improviser, I always find it jarring when I meet someone in real life whose first answer is no. “No, we can’t do that.” “No, that’s not in the budget.” “No, I will not hold your hand for a dollar.” What kind of way is that to live?

Spending your time disagreeing is often a slow, frustrating path to indecision. Even if your goal is to get to a different place than your colleague is currently occupying, it’s likely faster to get there together. This does not mean suppressing your ideas:

To me YES, AND means don’t be afraid to contribute. It’s your responsibility to contribute. The next rule is MAKE STATEMENTS. This is a positive way of saying “Don’t ask questions all the time.” In other words: Whatever the problem, be part of the solution. Don’t just sit around raising questions and pointing out obstacles.

YES, AND is a powerful way to work as a team. You will come to a discussion with your own ideas. Make statements, but don’t let your ideas drown out the ideas of those around you.

Listen, consider, adjust. Together.

New Feature! Assign Projects from the User Profile

Recently, we introduced a new look to the user profile. Since its release, we’ve been working around the clock on the final touches of a feature that’s been highly requested by our customers – the ability to assign projects to people straight from their profiles.

This feature is especially useful for larger companies looking to increase their efficiency when adding multiple users and assigning a multitude of projects. We’ve streamlined the process so that, going forward, it will be much faster to get users set up to track time.

Assign Projects Faster

Imagine this: After a grueling recruiting process, you hire a few wonderful employees. You add them to Harvest via our quick and simple form, and we drop you right into the Projects section of their profile. With our new feature, you’ll be able to:

  • Assign them to multiple projects at once using our home-grown Chosen search.
  • Assign them to all existing and future projects. It’s like cruise control, but on Harvest.

Make a mistake? If you accidentally assign the wrong project, you can easily remove it from the list.
