Understanding Danish Expense Reimbursement Requirements
Denmark's new bookkeeping law, enacted in May 2022, mandates digital bookkeeping and storage of financial documents, including expense receipts. This legislation requires companies to adopt digital record-keeping to enhance transparency and efficiency. For businesses in accounting classes B, C, and D, compliance became mandatory from July 1, 2024. By January 1, 2026, this will extend to personally owned businesses with an annual turnover exceeding DKK 300,000 for two consecutive years.
To comply with these regulations, businesses must ensure all receipts are digitally stored in an approved system for at least five years. Receipts must include specific information like issue date, delivery nature, VAT amount, and CVR numbers. Failure to maintain proper documentation can lead to denied tax deductions. Harvest aids businesses in meeting these requirements by offering real-time expense tracking via its mobile app, allowing employees to upload receipts on the go.
