Navigating Turkish Labor Laws: The Foundation of Time Tracking
In Turkey, effective project time tracking hinges on compliance with local labor laws, notably Turkish Labor Law No. 4857. Employers are mandated to maintain precise records of employee working hours, which must be objective, reliable, and accessible. The standard workweek is capped at 45 hours, with overtime calculated at a minimum of 150% of the regular hourly wage. Overtime consent is required, and annual overtime cannot exceed 270 hours per employee.
The law also stipulates specific break periods: 15 minutes for up to 4 hours of work, 30 minutes for 4-7.5 hours, and 1 hour for more than 7.5 hours. These breaks are unpaid and not included in working hours. Night work, defined as work between 8 PM and 6 AM, has a strict 7.5-hour limit. Compliance with these regulations is crucial for businesses to avoid legal repercussions and ensure employee well-being.
