Understanding Timesheet Compliance in Ukraine
Maintaining accurate timesheets is a legal requirement for businesses in Ukraine, serving as the foundation for salary accrual. According to Ukrainian labor laws, companies must record working hours, including start and end times, breaks, overtime, and work during weekends or holidays. These records are crucial for compliance and must be preserved for at least three years. With the introduction of electronic labor books in June 2021, there is a transitional period of five years for converting from paper records.
Specific regulations define standard and reduced working hours. The typical workweek is 40 hours, but in hazardous environments or for minors, this can be reduced to 36 or even 24 hours, depending on age. Martial law introduces exceptions, allowing critical infrastructure employees to work up to 60 hours per week. Effective timesheet apps in Ukraine must accommodate these various schedules and ensure compliance with overtime regulations, which limit overtime to 120 hours annually and require it to be paid at double the regular rate.
