Understanding Danish Timesheet Requirements
As of July 1, 2024, Danish employers must comply with a mandatory time registration system, a directive stemming from the EU's "Deutsche Bank case." This system requires employers to register each employee's total daily working hours and ensure the system is "objective, reliable, and accessible." While exact start and end times are not required, the system must allow for documentation of compliance with maximum weekly working hours and daily/weekly rest periods.
Key features include maintaining records up to five years and providing employee access to their own data. Employers must also ensure GDPR compliance with the handling of this data. With a standard 37-hour work week in Denmark, the system must not exceed an average of 48 hours per week over a four-month period, unless specified by collective agreements.
