Key Features of a Malaysian Invoice Template
A compliant Malaysian invoice template must incorporate specific details to meet local tax regulations, particularly concerning Sales and Service Tax (SST) and the new e-invoicing mandate. Essential fields include the supplier's and buyer's registered names, Tax Identification Numbers (TIN), and registration numbers (e.g., a 12-digit SSM business registration number for companies or MyKad/passport for individuals). If applicable, the SST registration number for both parties is mandatory. The invoice must clearly itemize the description of goods or services, unit price, quantity, and specify the Sales and Service Tax rate and amount separately, along with the total amount including tax. For e-invoices, which are mandatory for businesses with annual turnover above RM1 million from January 1, 2026, the template must also accommodate a unique e-invoice code/number, date and time of issuance, and a digital signature.
