Essential Elements of a GST-Compliant Invoice
To ensure your invoices comply with Australian tax regulations, particularly for Goods and Services Tax (GST), they must include specific information. A document is considered a Tax Invoice if it clearly states "Tax Invoice" and is issued for supplies totaling A$82.50 or more (including GST). For amounts less than A$1,000, a tax invoice must contain:
- Your business's identity and Australian Business Number (ABN).
- The date the invoice was issued.
- A brief description of the items or services sold.
- The GST amount payable (if any), or a statement that the price includes GST.
For invoices exceeding A$1,000, the buyer's identity or ABN must also be included. Properly formatted invoices are crucial for both you and your clients to claim GST credits.
