Understanding Vietnam's Working Hour Regulations
Vietnam's labor laws are designed to protect workers by setting clear boundaries on working hours. The standard working time in Vietnam is limited to 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week. However, certain exceptions allow up to 10 hours a day, provided the weekly total does not exceed 48 hours. Additionally, employees must receive at least 24 consecutive hours of weekly rest.
Overtime is strictly regulated. Employers must ensure that overtime does not exceed 4 hours on any standard working day, with a monthly cap of 40 hours and an annual limit of 200 hours. In certain industries, such as manufacturing or seasonal work, this annual cap can be increased to 300 hours with proper approval. Overtime compensation is mandatory, with rates ranging from 150% to 300% of the regular wage, depending on when the overtime occurs.
