The Evolving Landscape of Time Tracking in Spain
Since the enactment of Royal Decree-Law 8/2019, tracking employee hours has become a legal obligation for all companies in Spain, regardless of size or industry. This regulatory shift toward mandatory time recording aims to enhance transparency and prevent overtime abuse. By 2026, new legislation will require exclusively digital timekeeping systems, making paper and spreadsheet records obsolete. This change affects all employees, including senior executives, and aligns with EU directives restricting work to 48 hours per week. Non-compliance could result in fines ranging from €751 to €225,018, emphasizing the need for businesses to adopt compliant digital solutions.
